I (Zero-Emission Vessels)
This first Special Session by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries themed “Building Back Bluer through Oceans”, building on from the Getting to Zero Coalition initiative, will leverage the P4G platform towards making zero-emission vessels and fuels into a reality, by engaging stakeholders and companies from P4G partner countries and beyond. Potential business and collaboration opportunities with stakeholders will also be identified, ultimately contributing to sustainable and inclusive growth of the shipping industry.
The P4G Partnership ‘Getting to Zero Coalition 2030’ aims to have commercially viable ZEVs (zero-emission vessels) operating along deep sea trade routes by 2030. The Getting to Zero Coalition unites more than 160 stakeholders including companies, NGOs, IGOs and knowledge institutions with the endorsement of 14 governments (Belgium, Chile, Denmark Finland, France, Ireland, Morocco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Palau, Poland, Republic of Korea, Sweden and United Kingdom).
International shipping emits 2-3 percent of global GHG emissions, while transporting close to 80 percent of global trade by volume. To curb the emissions from shipping, the IMO has agreed on an ambition to reduce GHG emissions from shipping by at least 50 percent by 2050 as compared to 2008 shipping emissions.
