In 2020, Covid-19 wreaked havoc on the entire world! Covid emerged so suddenly, forcing countries around the world to impose quarantines and lockdowns. This has hampered solidarity and cooperation in the international community that was built over a long period. During a time when few nations could contain the virus effectively, South Korea kept the economy open without lockdowns by implementing a comprehensive quarantine strategy. There were also past experiences that South Korea could draw upon that enable it to turn crises into opportunities time over time. How can we respond to these numerous crises that humanity now faces ranging from climate change, environmental issues and now Covid? South Korea is once again seeking opportunities amid this crisis.

Now it is time to give back to the international communitySouth Korea seizes the moment when a crisis occurs by turning them into opportunities that lead to a boost in economic growth. This was made possible because South Korea received an outpour of support in the aftermath of the Korean War from many countries. This aid laid the foundation for Korea’s rapid economic development. Korea is the only country that has transformed from an aid recipient to a donor country. Today, South Korea is sharing its know-how with developing countries to foster cooperation and solidarity, fulfilling its role as one of the leading economies in the world.
- Solidarity and promoting inclusivity will secure a better future!During these trying times when humankind is facing a pandemic, South Korea held the “2020 Global Korea Expo” to present a vision for future international cooperation. What is the task ahead to forge a common goal for overcoming these dark times?
