When COVID-19 first broke out, countries all over the world responded differently. While the number of confirmed cases rose, South Korea kept its numbers relatively low – even with the first wave in Daegu, Korea’s COVID-19 response was quick and resolute.
Playing a major part in Korea’s coronavirus fight was a system that kept medical institutions up to date on relative COVID-19 information. This nationwide system was run by HIRA, the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and helped to streamline their 3T strategy: Trace, Test and Treatment. HIRA allowed for early detection and treatment of confirmed cases and prevention of transmission.
While HIRA became the backbone of Korea’s COVID-19 fight, it did not work alone. There was state transparency, the rise of K-Biopharmaceuticals, an intense medical frontline and behind it all – the cooperative spirit of the Korean people.
“South Korea’s COVID-19 Fight” digs a little deeper for a comprehensive look at the past, present and future of the country’s novel coronavirus response.
