The Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) and its 65-year history of keeping the peace on the Korean Peninsula
The year 2018 has opened up a new chapter of peace on the Korean Peninsula. Following the third inter-Korean summit, the two Koreas have de-mined the JSA and suspended all hostile activities on the border as of Nov. 1, as part of a military agreement. These developments have also shone a spotlight on the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, which has overseen the armistice between the two Koreas since it was signed in July, 1953. The NNSC's role in facilitating peace is gathering attention, amid the possibility of a formal declaration and a peace treaty to end the Korean War. Patrick Gaucher, the NNSC's Swiss represntative, emphasized the need for a neutral body in the event of a conflict, and expressed his confidence that the NNSC can be that neutral body which can mediate between two opposing sides in any negotiations. This special documentary by Arirang TV zooms in on the NNSC's role as the guardians of peace on the Korean Peninsula, throughout its 65-year long history.
