Since the turn of the year, the situation on the Korean Peninsula has changed dramatically, offering hope for a new era of peace. At the heart of this change has been President Moon Jae-in, who has served as a catalyst to bring North Korea out from the shadows to engage with the U.S. and the international community. However, further challenges lie ahead, and President Moon continues to act as a mediator to keep progress moving.
In September, President Moon traveled to New York to attend the UN General Assembly and to brief U.S. President Donald Trump on his latest landmark meeting with Kim Jong-un in North Korea. During his visit, he also held a joint conference with several leading U.S. think tanks on Korean affairs, in which he laid out his vision for engaging with North Korea and bringing about a new future.
