The World On arirang

Arirang TV's Arirang Special documentary "Jeongseon, A Global Path" will be aired on Saturday, March 24th at 1pm to commemorate the Winter Games.
Jeongseon county used to be a city filled with coal mines and it pioneered Korea's economy in the 1970's. Jeongseon has now changed into an attractive, cultural tourist location with its vast and beautiful nature and rich culture. In particular, Korea's first-ever alpine ski slopes have been created and is a region, along with Gangneung city and PyeongChang county, to host the Winter Games. Arirang Special's "Jeongseon, A Global Path" gives a vibrant and energetic depiction of the entire process of the Winter Games, from the torch relay to the exciting ski matches. It also shows a story of those who worked diligently behind-the-scenes for the successful hosting of the Winter Games.

Jeongseon county's superb natural scenary and "Arirang," the Korean folk song designated as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list are some must-see elements of this documentary. Artistic processor Kim Nam-gi performed "Jeongseon Arirang" at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games. Through our interview, we learn about the hidden significance of "Jeongseon Arirang" and reflect on the true cultural value of "Arirang." Photographer Lee Jin-ho captured the international event on camera and through his photos, we follow his journey in taking in the cultural heritage of Jeongseon and his first-hand experience of the Winter Games.
