Memorial Mass

The funeral mass for Korea's first Roman Catholic Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan was held at Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral in downtown Seoul, 10 a.m. Friday, for nearly two hours. About 10,000 Catholics and non-Catholics crowded the cathedral to say goodbye at the late cardinal's funeral, which was carried out under the authority of the Vatican with Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk executing the ceremony as the Vatican's envoy. One of the five eulogies came from Pope Benedict the 16th and was read by Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, the archbishop of Seoul. The pope expressed gratitude for Cardinal Kim's loyalty to the papal office and his countless years of sacrifice for the Catholic community of Korea.
