This documentary tells the story of Hyeon-gak, a New Jersey native born into a Catholic family who became Buddhist after meeting the master of Buddhist priests, Sung-san. In an autobiography/essay format, this program highlights Hyeon-gak’s ups and downs as a middle-class American having chosen to abandon stability and loved ones to become a Korean Buddhist monk. Hyeon-gak holds a Masters Degree in Science of Religion from Harvard University. The documentary shows that good fortune can be found in the most mundane moments, whether it’s one spent eating or going to the market or enjoying nature.
