In her address at the 2015 Leaders' Summit on Peacekeeping at the United Nations, President Park Geun-hye discussed ways to increase capacities in the peacekeeping operations (PKO) and other activities of the U.N. under today's rapidly changing security environment around the globe.
President Park paid her respect to those from all over the world who are dedicated to participating in the U.N. peacekeeping activities for global peace and security.
Recalling that the Republic of Korea went through a devastating war and post-war years, the president noted that Korea has become acutely aware of the importance of peace and will continue its active participation to support the U.N. in maintaining peace.
As this year's peacekeeping summit marked the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, the gathering of world leaders played an important role in helping meet the key objective of the U.N. Charter "to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security".
The program represents the significance of the summit as it served as a valuable opportunity for global cooperation and showed the enhanced status of Korea in the international community.
