The ferry Sewol-ho carrying hundreds of passengers on the morning of April 16th, 2014, was heading towards the southern resort island of Jeju when it suddenly started sinking and led to a complete national disaster. Of the 476 people on board, only 174 passengers survived this tragedy. The sunken ferry Sewol-ho brought a national despair with many parts of the world also paying their condolences.
Many days after the ferry disaster, only one wish for the country is to realize a big miracle, as hope still remains among the citizens in search of survivors.
The coast guards along with civilian divers are tirelessly working around the clock, risking their lives for the families of the missing passengers. Also about 16-thousand volunteers across the nation gave their time and effort to console and help those in need. Candle light vigils are taking place in various regions in Korea, wishing for a safe return of the missing passengers.
In these desperate times, people in Korea are coming together to support the search and rescue efforts. Around the world, messages of hope are pouring in from international leaders, celebrities and as well as “Pray for South Korea” campaign that went viral.
