There are people whose ordinary lives were ravaged by Japan's wartime atrocities. All that's left for them is the tormentful present. Their unhealed scars are deeply embedded in their minds and souls but such pain had to be erased from history. And thus, they had to fight and endure the horrific past.
The movie "Herstory" tells the story of women hidden from history, the women who were sexual slavery victims and are known as 'comfort women.'
Director Min Kyu-dong' s new film "Herstory" is based on a true story. It sheds light on a court trial that produced a rare and meaningful ruling that ordered the Japanese government to compensate the plaintiffs for the first time in the history of court trials related to 'comfort women.' This court trial is not well-known but they partially won a case, a first in history.
