The World Health Organization says South America has now become the epicenter of the global coronavirus pandemic.
According to the WHO, over 650-thousand cases have been confirmed in some 30 countries, the region taking up 12 percent of the total COVID-19 cases worldwide.
Brazil is the hardest-hit country with more than 330-thousand infections and 21-thousand deaths.
The WHO has also pointed out the use of anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine in Brazil, and said there's not enough clinical evidence on the efficacy of the drug.
Due to inadequate medical systems and lack of testing facilities, concerns are growing, and more deaths are expected from the region.
