UN chief condemns shelling around Ukrainian nuclear plant Updated: 2022-08-10 22:27:13 KST

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the recent shelling around Russian occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, calling it "suicidal."
Speaking on Monday, the UN chief demanded the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, be given access to the plant.
Russian state media later said that Russia was ready to assist the IAEA with a visit to Zaporizhzhia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has called the shelling a terrorist act, appeared to elevate Ukraine's war aims, saying Tuesday that "Crimea is Ukrainian" and the war "must end with Crimea."
Zelensky was speaking soon after one person was killed when a Russian military air base in Crimea was rocked by explosions.
Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for that, and Moscow says it was an explosion of stored ammunition.
