South Koreans will soon no longer need to carry their national ID cards for things like going to the bank.
From Wednesday a two-week trial run begins for an ID card that's stored on smartphones with the existing Android app Government 24.
The app shows the same information as an ID, and can be verified if scanned.
It can be used for boarding planes, signing contracts and so on with the same legal validity as a physical card.
An app for iOS will be available later this week.
The service officially launches in mid-July.
