S. Korea's trade minister calls USTR to accelerate negotiations on steel and aluminum imports Updated: 2022-01-28 20:54:37 KST

South Korea's trade minister, Yeo Han-koo has requested that the U.S. begin talks soon with Seoul on revising the quotas imposed by the Trump administration on Korean steel and aluminum.
Minister Yeo made the request on Thursday in a meeting in Washington with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
President Trump, in 2018, got rid of tariffs on Korean steel in favor of a quota limiting imports to 70% of South Korea's average steel export volume.
But then last year, the U.S. got rid of tariffs on steel and aluminum from Europe, has already started talks with Japan, which is putting Korea at a disadvantage.
