South Korea and the U.S. are currently holding their annual Security Consultative Meeting in Seoul.
Defense Minister Suh Wook and his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin are likely discussing ways to implement a conditions-based transfer of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul, which the allies agreed to do in 2014.
They are also expected to address North Korea and other alliance issues.
Austin arrived in Seoul on Wednesday for a three-day stay.
This is the first time in eight months that he has visited South Korea.
