Top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said COVID-19 could be contained as an endemic illness as long as the U.S. increases its vaccination campaign.
In an interview with Reuters on Tuesday, Fauci said vaccinations and particularly booster shots would reduce the current COVID-19 pandemic into a regular illness by spring next year.
This means that the virus won't be as big a threat to daily life or economic activity.
But for this to work, Fauci stressed that the U.S. should consider providing extra jabs for everybody.
As of now, only those aged 65 and up, recipients of the Janssen vaccine, or those at high risk of COVID-19 due to underlying health or living conditions are eligible for a booster shot.
