President Moon Jae-in met at the Blue House on Tuesday with Lee Jae-myung the presidential candidate for the ruling Democratic Party.
Moon congratulated Lee the former Gyeonggi-do Province Governor on winning the nomination to which, Lee said that he will do his best for the success of President Moon's administration, of which, he said, he considers himself a "member."
The Blue House said that the two also discussed the climate crisis and economic policies, but did not touch upon politically sensitive issues.
Regarding the presidential election next March, Moon said he hopes it will be a contest based on policy, including for the opposition nominees.
The Blue House, meanwhile, says it would consider a meeting the candidate of the main opposition party, once it chooses one, if they request a meeting.
Moon's term ends in May next year with the presidential election scheduled for March.
