The EU has revealed its plans to go toe-to-toe with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
The program is aimed at boosting global spending on infrastructure and other projects.
The President of the European Commission on Wednesday put forward the measure, dubbed "Global Gateway," during her State of the Union speech.
Under the initiative, she said the EU will forge partnerships with countries around the world, invest in quality infrastructure as well as connect goods, people and services around the world.
She stressed the EU needs to become more active in an era of global hyper-competitiveness.
