During a 90 minute call, U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed a range of transnational issues, including the origin of COVID-19.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a briefing Friday that the origin of the virus is a primary concern for the Biden administration.
She added the U.S. continues to support phase two of the WHO's investigation in China and they called on China to allow further studies.
The secretary said the call was "candid," and Biden did not avoid areas of disagreement.
According to China's Xinhua news, Xi told Biden that the two countries should respect each other's "core concerns" and properly manage differences.
