Jun Woong-tae wins S. Korea's first medal in modern pentathlon Updated: 2021-08-08 10:13:08 KST

And on Saturday, South Korea won its first medal in modern pentathlon, the sport in which athletes compete in five different events on the same day fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and finally a combination of cross country running and pistol shooting.
It was a bronze medal, won by Jun Woong-tae.
He had a combined score of 1,470 points, putting him just 12 points behind the gold medalist, Joseph Choong of Great Britain.
Until now, the best Olympic finish for a Korean athlete in pentathlon was 11th place.
But Jun Woong-tae has been a rising star since the middle of the last decade, having won a World Cup title in the sport in 2016.
He told reporters Saturday that he hopes to make the sport more well known.
