In perhaps one of the biggest developments in modern soccer Lionel Messi is set to leave F.C. Barcelona due to financial regulations set by the Spanish League.
The 34 year old's contract expired at the end of last season, but an agreement was in place to extend his time with the club he has played for since 2003.
According to reports, he had even accepted a pay-cut to stay, however F.C. Barcelona announced the player's departure on its website citing "financial and structural obstacles".
While at Barcelona, the Argentinian won a record six Ballon d'Or awards.
