The British navy said Wednesday that the hijackers who boarded a vessel off the coast of the UAE in the Gulf of Oman have left the ship.
The news comes after the UK Maritime Trade Operations warned of a "potential hijack" the night before, saying the "incident is complete".
While it did not provide further details on the incident, Reuters earlier quoted two security maritime sources who said Iranian-backed forces were believed to have seized the tanker.
The Panama-flagged vessel had been heading towards Iran under the control of armed hijackers, before they left.
The incident also comes as at least six ships in the region on Tuesday, broadcasted warnings that they had lost control of their steering under unclear circumstances.
