South Korea's official COVID-19 tally for Thursday has yet to be announced, but authorities expect close to 18-hundred cases, having logged 1,649 new ones by Wednesday evening.
Case numbers receded early this week, with some 12-hundred daily infections reported on Monday and Tuesday.
But infections jumped up to 1,725 in a day, with Thursday expected to bring even higher numbers.
Health authorities will announce Friday whether to extend level four distancing measures in the capital in an effort to slow the spread.
