Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says the global economic recovery will largely depend on COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
He called efforts not only the right thing to do, but the smart thing to do.
He made the remarks Thursday at a virtual seminar on the global economy hosted by the IMF.
When it comes to the U.S., Powell said its recovery is uneven.
He said the jobless rate among the bottom quarter of workers, in terms of income, is still hovering around 20 percent, indicating the crisis has mostly hit low-income earners.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the U.S. unemployment rate is six percent.
