PM urges passage of budget for pandemic relief funds Updated: 2021-03-05 15:53:06 KST

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, in a speech to parliament on Friday, called the government's proposed extra budget a "vaccine" and a "medicine" to support the people's economic livelihoods, and he urged lawmakers to pass it as soon as possible.
The government submitted the budget on Thursday.
Worth 15 trillion won, or around 13.2 billion U.S. dollars, the extra budget will provide a fourth round of emergency relief payments to 6.9 million people, which is 2 million more than the previous round.
Another 4 trillion won will come from this year's regular budget.
More than 40 percent of the package will be used to support small business owners and entrepreneurs.
Twenty percent will pay for free vaccinations, and the third-largest portion will be used to create jobs.
