S. Korean int'l development expert appointed as ADB's Managing Director General Updated: 2021-02-23 05:20:19 KST

The Asian Development Bank on Monday appointed Um Woo-chong as its Managing Director General.
Um is the intenational organization's first South Korean director in 15 years since former finance ministry official Lee Young-hoi held the position from 2003 to 2006.
The new managing director will oversee the bank's sustainable development and climate change department.
Since joining the ADB in 1993, Um is widely regarded as an international development expert who has been spearheading the ADB in dealing with COVID-19 and climate change.
