South Korea reported four-hundred-ninety-seven new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
This is a significant increase from the number of cases a few days ago, an increase largely accounted for by clusters linked to an unregistered missionary school in Daejeon.
Officials note that the numerical trend in cases has become unstable.
Of today's new cases, 479 were locally transmitted, and most were in the greater Seoul area.
18 were from overseas.
The total number of cases to date is closing in on 77-thousand.
Eight more people died, raising the death toll to 1,386.
