S. Korean PM inspects cryogenic storage for COVID-19 vaccines Updated: 2021-01-27 03:54:00 KST

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun went to Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do Province on Tuesday to visit a cryogenic logistics center.
This visit was to check whether the facility can safely store COVID-19 vaccines.
The site's cold chain storage can keep the vaccines as cold as minus 80 degrees Celsius.
The Prime Minister called the vaccines a “game changer” in the fight against the virus.
He added that when the government inks the deal with NOVAVAX soon, South Korea will have access to enough doses for 76 million people, meaning, he said, that the people no longer have to worry about running short on vaccines.
Prime Minister Chung said the government will do its best to make the rollout in South Korea a role model for the world like the Korean methods of quarantine were last year.
Ahead of the vaccine rollout next month, the government has asked the private medical sector to provide support staff.
Health Minister Kwon Deok-cheol said in a meeting of parliament's joint committee on vaccines that some regions and facilities might not have enough workers for the inoculation program.
This is because several kinds of vaccines will have to be used in many different locations in a short period of time.
The rollout plan is to be announced to the public on Thursday, and the two sides agreed on the need to give accurate information to reassure the public about any possible side effects.
At Tuesday's regular briefing from the health authorities, officials explained how virus prevention measures will be used in conjuction with the vaccines.

“We will do our best to conduct research on the body's immune response post-vaccination and come up with virus prevention measures until the community forms antibodies. This is how we will win the war against COVID-19.”

The government is planning to assign 10-thousand medical institutions and 250 vaccination centers to the inoculation program.
