S. Korea confirms this year's first case of avian flu in domestic poultry Updated: 2020-11-29 08:56:07 KST

South Korea has confirmed its first case this year of highly pathogenic avian influenza in farm poultry.
The agriculture ministry said on Saturday that the H5-N8 strain of the virus was found at a duck farm in Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do Province.
There have been cases among wild birds, but this is the first to be found among farm animals in more than two and a half years.
The Jeollabuk-do government said it has culled close to 400-thousand chickens and ducks.
All poultry farms in the area near the outbreak have been put on lockdown for a week, and for livestock facilities nationwide, the lockdown is in force for 48 hours.
