New Armenia, Azerbaijan truce deal breaks down hours after taking effect Updated: 2020-10-20 10:08:34 KST

Hopes for a new truce between Armenia and Azerbaijan are fading after heavy fighting in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
On Saturday, the two sides agreed on a deal brokered by Russia.
But just hours later, they began exchanging fire, causing casualties on both sides.
The two former Soviet republics have been locked in the territorial dispute for decades over Nagorno-Karabakh, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but the majority of its population are ethnic Armenians.
