U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will ban Tik Tok in the U.S. amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing.
Trump told reporters on Friday local time that he will take action as soon as Saturday to prohibit Chinese-owned video app Tik Tok from the U.S.
Describing the action as "severance", he said he could use executive order or economic emergency power to bar Tik Tok from operating in the country.
He cited that the app has been a source of national security and censorship concerns over the safety of the personal data that Tik Tok collects.
Trump also rejected the idea of a potential deal for Microsoft to buy the app from its Beijing-based parent company ByteDance .
