U.S. still far from executing complete sanctions on countries like Iran and N. Korea: Pompeo Updated: 2020-06-02 07:30:19 KST

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has renewed Washington's commitment to thoroughly executing sanctions on countries like North Korea, Iran and Venezuela.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Pompeo said that, while sanctions have been effective, they are still far from completely executing such penalties.
Pompeo's comment come as the first of five Iranian oil tankers entered Venezuelan waters carrying more than a million barrels of crude oil, despite both countries being subject to U.S. sanctions.
His remarks come just a day after the Justice Department indicted 28 North Korean and Chinese individuals for operating a global financial network to support Pyeongyang's nuclear weapons and missile program in violation of U.S. sanctions.
