President Moon Jae-in visited Incheon International Airport on Tuesday to encourage the quarantine workers there on this World Health Day.
He thanked them for working around the clock, putting their own health at risk on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19.
Moon said that the government did not have to shut the country's borders because it had confidence in their ability to control the virus.
He added that despite the continued rise in imported cases of COVID-19, the situation will stabilize through tight quarantine and strict self-isolation measures.
Moon expressed hope that South Korea becomes the first country to bring an end to the outbreak.
On social media, Moon also thanked the country's nurses, saying they have shown devotion despite not being in the spotlight.
