Despite rising speculation it might be postponed or even called off altogether, the International Olympic Committee has reiterated that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be held as scheduled in July and August.
This after a third teleconference on Thursday with around 30 representatives from the National Olympic Committees of the Asian region.
The IOC reconfirmed its previous decision to hold the event as planned despite the coronavirus outbreak.
"We were also very constructive in a way that it was in consideration of the way to Tokyo and that there everybody realized that there we have still more than four months to go and we will address this action."
However, a number of athletes have raised concerns, saying the decision does a disservice to athletes.
