N. Korea to keep borders shut until COVID-19 treatments ready Updated: 2020-02-27 17:29:38 KST

North Korea has announced that it will keep its borders shut until there's an effective diagnosis and treatment method for the coronavirus.
The regime's vice health minister, Kim Hyong-hun , said in an interview with the Choson Sinbo, a pro-North Korean newspaper in Japan, that the key way to keep the virus out is to not let any foreigners in.
North Korea has had its borders closed since the end of last month, and it has not yet reported any infections.
But the UN special rapporteur on North Korea human rights, Tomas Ojea Quintana, said in a statement Wednesday that Pyeongyang should let in foreign aid groups.
He said this could be a chance to initiate close cooperation between the North and the international community to achieve common goals.
