Wearing a mask is one of the simplest, yet most effective ways to protect yourself from the coronavirus.
( ) But, it is important to wear it properly.
Let's take a look at how to put on, wear, take off and throw away a mask in a way that prevents the spread of disease.
The whole process begins before putting on a mask.
Cleaning your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or with soap and water is a must.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends washing your hands under running water for at least 30 seconds.
Once you are done washing your hands, grab a mask but don't touch the front side.
Cover your mouth and nose with the maskand make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask by adjusting the mask's shape.
You should not touch the mask once it's on your face unless you are about to take it off.
For those of you wearing glasses, putting on a mask might be quite annoying.
Your glasses often get foggy as you breathe in and out.
But if you fold the top one centimeter of the mask inward, that folded part blocks the air coming out of your nose and mouth.
Or you could put a piece of tissue on the top part of the inside of the mask, as this has a similar effect.
These two tips should help stop warm breath from fogging up your glasses.
After you are done wearing the mask, remove it using the loops around your ears.
Try not to touch the front side of the mask while doing so.
Throw it away in a bin with a lid and don't forget to wash your hands afterwards.
Here are more tips from the World Health Organization.
Do not use a single-use mask more than once.
A used mask could be infected even if you never touch the front side.
Replace the mask with a new dry one when it becomes damp or humid.
( ) But above all,the WHO stresses that wearing a mask is only effective if it's combined with good hand hygiene.
