Built to monitor the movement of fine dust and other air pollutants in the East Asia region, …South Korea's Chollian-2B has successfully separated from its rocket and communicated with Earth.
According to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on Wednesday, …the Ariane-5 rocket carrying the satellite was launched from French Guiana at 7:18 PM local time.
The satellite successfully separated from the rocket 31 minutes after lift-off …and made first contact with a tracking station in Australia.
On course to reach its transfer orbit some 36-thousand kilometers above the Earth's equator, …the Chollian-2B will begin checking for water contaminants starting October …and improve the possibility of providing advance warnings to affected regions.
Observation and tracking of fine dust and 20 types of air pollutants will be fully operational in 2021, …and the information from the satellite will be used to provide more accurate weather forecasts and allow Seoul to work with its neighbors to reduce pollution in the region.
The life cycle of the Chollian-2B is ten years, …the same as the Chollian-2A launched in late 2018.
