The founder and honorary chairman of Lotte Group Shin Kyuk-ho died on Sunday at the age of 97.
The group said in a statement that he died of a chronic illness at about 4:30 PM at Asan Medical Center in Seoul.
Born in 1922, Shin founded Lotte in 1948 as a small chewing gum manufacturer in Japan.
Lotte Group is now the fifth-largest conglomerate in South Korea with a wide business portfolio from retail stores to entertainment.
