S. Koreans aged over 60 find more jobs in 2019, while 30s and 40s struggle Updated: 2019-12-15 14:26:14 KST

South Koreans in their thirties and forties have struggled to get jobs this year, as employment figures fell by the tens of thousands.
According to Statistics Korea, the total number of people who found work between January and November this year grew 281-thousand compared to the same period in 2018.
However, the growth largely pertains to the older generation, as government budget has supported job creation for those aged over 60.
The figure grew by 367-thousand from last year.
Meanwhile, new jobs for people in their thirties and forties fell by 58-thousand and 165-thousand respectively.
The downward trend comes amid the country's struggle with a chronically-low birthrate and a rapid decline in the working-age population.
