The U.S. House Judiciary Committee has approved impeachment charges against President Donald Trump on Friday.
The vote was strictly along party lines, with all Democrats voting for, and all Republican members voting against the motion.
After engaging in a heated session on Thursday, the committee approved two articles charging the president with abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
President Trump responded to the vote with derision, calling the impeachment drive against him a "sham" and a "hoax."
The full House will debate the articles further on Wednesday, and put them up for a vote by next week.
