U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun is due in South Korea on Sunday for a three-day trip.
He is to sit down for talks with his South Korean counterpart Lee Do-hoon on Monday.
They will likely discuss ways to revive nuclear talks with North Korea, as well as work out methods for denuclearization and peace.
Biegun's visit comes just a couple of weeks ahead of the year-end deadline set by Pyeongyang for nuclear talks with Washington.
Reports suggest Biegun could meet North Korean officials at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjeom during his trip here to try to diffuse escalating tensions between the two sides.
