Paris police have arrested more than 100 people, as rallies marking the first anniversary of the yellow vest movement turned violent on Saturday.
Police deployed tear gas and water cannons in the French capital to drive back the thousands of protestors.
Some of them burned barricades, set cars and rubbish bins on fire and threw cobblestones at police.
147 were arrested by the evening.
The yellow jacket protests first began last year as a demonstration against new fuel taxes, but grew into a wider movement demanding France's government to address social inequality and the needs of ordinary citizens.
