China confirms two cases of pneumonic plague; spread to S. Korea unlikely Updated: 2019-11-14 10:08:59 KST

Two cases of the plague have been confirmed in China, raising concerns over the possible spread of the illness to South Korea.
However, Korean health officials say the risk of the highly contagious disease spreading here is very low,.. adding they have enough vaccines in stock, even if an outbreak were to occur.
The plague, which used to be called 'The Black Death' and killed tens of millions of people in Europe in the 1350s., causes symptoms such as fever, headache and vomiting.
If left untreated, it has a mortality rate of nearly 100-percent.
