South Korean striker Son Heung-min, who helped his club team reach the UEFA Champions League final last season, has been nominated for the world's top player award for 2019.
The 27-year-old made the list of 30 nominees for the renowned Ballon d'Or Award, that recognizes the top footballer each year based on voting by journalists, coaches and the captains of national teams.
Son will be up against star players including Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Juventus.
He is the third South Korean to be nominated for the prestigious award,… after Seol Ki-hyeon in 2002 and Park Ji-sung in 2005.
Meanwhile, Lee Kang-in, who won the Golden Ball as the best player at this year's FIFA Under-20 World Cup, was among the 10 nominees for the top award for under-21-year-old players in 2019.
The winners of the awards will be revealed in December 2nd in Paris.
