Apple is reversing its long-held policy on iPhone repairs and will start supplying parts to independent shops.
Apple said Thursday that it will offer independent repair shops access to parts, tools and guides for common fixes that are not covered by warranties.
The company said when a repair is needed, customers should have confidence the repair will be done right and is handled by a trained technician.
The new program is free to join, but shops have to employ an Apple-certified technician.
The program will launch first in the U.S.
