National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang says if North Korea keeps its denuclearization pledge, it will lead naturally to a range of inter-Korean economic cooperation.
Moon was speaking Thursday with two Italian lawmakers who chair bilateral parliamentary friendship associations Italy maintains separately with Seoul and Pyeongyang.
Moon said North Korea is an attractive place for investment that will be able to provide fresh life for the global economy.
Now, he said, is an opportunity for Pyeongyang, because the U.S. is willing to talk with it, while the Moon Jae-in administration is also promoting its peace drive.
The Italian lawmakers are in Seoul following a three-day trip to North Korea, where they met with officials including Ri Jong-hyok, the vice chairman of Pyeongyang's Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.
They said they think highly of President Moon's engagement with North Korea, but they feel there's been lack of real progress due to Washington.
