President Trump's new Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper, will kick off a tour of the Asia-Pacific region starting Friday.
His trip will take him to countries including South Korea, Japan and Mongolia.
While in Seoul, Esper is scheduled to have his first meeting with his South Korean counterpart.
Top officials will be reviewing the security of the Korean Peninsula and reaffirming the defense relationship between Seoul and Washington.
They are also expected to work on a defense cost-sharing deal, with the current one expiring at the end of the year.
