South Korea's finance chief says the government will unveil comprehensive measures to support local firms in the wake of Japan's export restrictions.
Speaking at a parliamentary meeting Thursday, finance minister Hong Nam-ki said the plan will hopefully make Korea's materials and parts industries more competitive, and achieve self-sufficiency.
Hong added the government has been analyzing the possible impact of Tokyo's removal of Korea from its list of so-called "white countries", and discussing possible countermeasures.
He also said that should Japan's export controls persist, it could weigh on the country's economic growth.
