Northern Italian cities of Milan and Cortina selected as host cities for 2026 Winter Olympics Updated: 2019-06-25 17:07:29 KST

The Italian cities of Milan and Cortina have been picked to host the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, beating their only other contender Stockholm.
The decision was announced on Monday by IOC President Thomas Bach and came amid concerns Italy's slowing economy may hinder its chances of hosting the Winter Games.
Skating sports will be held in Milan, while most alpine skiing events will take place in Cortina, which last hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956.
